This remarkable material is one of the most substantial elements that make up the Earth’s crust. More common than limestone, sandstone, granite or marble, it is literally everywhere.  There are many different types of quartz and some of them are classified as semi-precious gems. All across Europe and the Middle East for thousands of years jewellers have used quartz to make jewellery and other decorative ornaments.

In its purest form, quartz is completely colourless and translucent, but there are also many different coloured forms such as amethyst, rose quartz, citrine, smoky quartz and milky quartz.  The colours depend on different combinations and proportions of quartz’s constituent crystals.

Unsurprisingly, given its jewelled appearance, quartz is a very popular substance for decorative use in the home.  Quartz that is used for kitchen worktops or floors or bathrooms is actually partially man-made.  It is usually made up of 90% natural quartz with the addition of 10% polyester resin, which helps to give a truly lasting and resilient finish.

One of the most appealing features of quartz – particularly when it is used in worktops – is the random arrangement of tiny reflective specks in its surface, which give a delightful sparkling appearance.  This effect really adds depth and impact to what would otherwise be a plain, flat surface.

But more than this, quartz is an extremely practical option.  There are only three substances on the planet which are harder than quartz – diamond, topaz and sapphire.  This guarantees that your quartz worktop has a phenomenally strong resistance to scratching or chipping.  Also, because it is a non-porous stone, it is impervious to the ravages of spilt coffee, milk, wine, fruit juice, vinegar – pretty much anything you can throw at it.  This means it’s great for kitchen floors too.

And like all the stone products which Capital Granite supplies, quartz is versatile enough to be used in a variety of settings. For example, if you’re thinking of giving your home a facelift, then why not consider using quartz to transform your bathroom into something opulent, luxurious and, frankly, stunning.  Floors, walls, surfaces – using quartz will bring a depth and radiance you’ve never experienced.

So let us show you what the beauty of quartz can do for your home.  We have a wealth of experience in the uses of quartz, both at home and in commercial premises.  We can give you all the advice, suggestions and guidance you need to make the right choices for your own environment.  Why not give us a call today?
